General Information
Q. I just joined. What should I do next?
A. If you haven’t already joined the yacht club’s site on the HHP Engage platform, do so now. This will ensure you receive all our communications and event updates. On Engage, go to: For Residents > Groups > Yacht Club.
Q. Where can I find a list of the club’s upcoming activities?
A. Our full schedule is published on our website. On the calendar page, you can download the Long Range Schedule and view a calendar with hyperlinks to register for activities (once registration opens). You can also find a link to the calendar on our club’s Engage site.
Q. How far in advance does registration open for events?
A. It depends on the event, but registration typically opens 2-3 weeks prior to it. Registration typically ends about 5 days before the event. The registration deadline will be included when we publish the event details. Most activities require an RSVP.
Q. When and where does the club hold formal meetings?
A. Monthly dinner meetings are typically held from January to May and then from September to December. They are usually on Thursday evenings in the Plantation House and feature a guest speaker/special presentation. Attendance is optional but encouraged – they’re fun!
Q. Where can I find a list of all yacht club members?
A. You can find our Member Directory under the “Members Only” section of the website. To log in to that area of the website, use the email address you receive your HHPYC email communications and set your password. If you need help or a password reset, email: webmaster@hhpyc.org.
Boating Events
Q. Can I register for boating events if I don’t have a boat?
A. Yes! Members who own a boat or who belong to a boat club (Freedom, Skipperi, etc.) graciously allow our non-boating members to ride with them so we can all have a fun time on the water together
Q. If I own a boat or if I am a boat club member, do I have to take other members out with me?
A. There is no obligation to be a volunteer captain. We do sincerely appreciate it when you do - and members contribute to pay for your expenses such as fuel, etc.
Q What support is there for boating event volunteer captains?
A. Our event organizers provide detailed logistics support. They scout out locations in advance, provide directions, handle attendee registrations, coordinate passengers' boat assignments, and ensure you have each passenger's contact information. If you are unfamiliar with the destination, they will even put someone aboard who is familiar with it to assist you and/or pair you with another boat for the excursion. Volunteering as a captain is a great way to learn the local waters and gain boating experience!
Q. Who can I contact for more information about being a volunteer captain?
A. Contact our Boating Fleet Captain, Gail Hayes, at fleetcaptain@hhpyc.org or (860) 538-2458.
Q. How many people can participate in boating events?
A. It varies, depending on the number of available boats. Event organizers track registrations and will waitlist attendees if needed.
Q. What happens if there is inclement weather?
A. Member safety is our top priority for boating events. Our Boating Fleet Captain will contact all registered participants in advance if we need to reschedule due to poor conditions. We publish a rain date for each event and will reopen registration for that new date. Note: You are not automatically guaranteed a spot on the rescheduled date. You will need to re-register.
